Early Years Pupil Premium

Childminders, pre-schools, nurseries and schools are able to use this additional money in different ways. This could include:

​

• Buying new resources and equipment

• Creating ‘home learning’ packs for you to enjoy with your child at home

• Offering children additional sessions, either during the school day or for holidays, breakfast / tea clubs

• Arranging training so that staff can better support children

• Offering additional or enhanced learning opportunities for all children (for example Forest School / trips and outings)
   

As not all children receive the funding and spending it individually can limit its impact for children. 

For the spring term 2024 we have 16 children who are in receipt of EYPP.

How Brougham Street Community Nursery spends its allocation of Early Years Pupil Premium

We currently use the funding to meet children's individual needs. For the period Sept 23 to March 24 we have received £4,444.50 of Early Years Pupil Premium funding. We keep a record of the individual achievement of all children who are eligible for Early Years Pupil Premium funding and are able to compare their individual progress.

Our main focus during this year is to develop a total communication approach. This has involved the development of Makaton, objects of reference and picture exchange across the entire staff team in the nursery school and this is now being rolled out across the whole nursery. We have also focused on supporting children's self-regulation and have developed a self-regulation toolkit that is shared with parents when appropriate.

The Early Years Pupil Premium also allows us to ensure that we have adequate staffing for specific activities, such as Forest School and relevant trips and experiences. These have included visits from the Owl Sanctuary, canal trips, visits to the allotments and many others. This ensures that all children are able to participate and are included.

We target the funding into our Inclusion Team and this ensures that specific interventions are shared across the whole staff team.

Children are eligible for the new early years pupil premium if they are 3 or 4 years old and receiving funded early education with an early years setting, school or funded childminder.

AND if their parents are in receipt of one or more of these benefits:

• Income support

• Income based job seekers allowance

• Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

• The guaranteed element of State Pension credit

• Child Tax Credit – provided they are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190

• OR if they have been:

  • Looked after by the Local Authority for at least one day

  • Have been adopted from care

  • Have left care through special guardianship; and

  • Subject to a child arrangement order – setting out with whom the child is to live (formerly a ‘residence order’)
     

To claim this money for your child, you will need to complete an ‘Eligibility Checking Form’ which is available from the office.

To complete this form, you will need your surname, date of birth, National Insurance number and postcode.  You will also be asked if you are in receipt of any of the benefits listed above.

​

If your child may be eligible, your child’s setting or school will then send your form to North Yorkshire County Council at County Hall in Northallerton so that your eligibility can be confirmed.  Your information will not be shared with anyone else and will not be used for any other purpose.

After your eligibility has been confirmed, your setting will then receive the early year’s pupil premium money to spend for your child.  They will talk with you about how you would like it to be spent, and then tell you about the difference it is making for your child’s learning in the future.
